Savon Voima invests in multi-site work - How the office in the heart of Helsinki has been received

Savon Voima, an energy group based in Eastern Finland, has chosen the office space at Boffice Railway Station for its staff. The strategic decision to invest in multi-site work will improve the employee experience and enable the recruitment of new talent from the Southern Finland region.

Savon Voima has a 19m² room at Boffice Railway Station, with a few workstations and lounge chairs for breaks.

Savon Voima is an energy group offering a wide range of energy services. Operating since 1947, the company employs more than 200 energy professionals, whose commitment, competence and well-being are actively invested in. Savon Voima's main office is located in Siilijärvi, near Kuopio, and it also has offices in Joensuu, Iisalmi and Pieksämäki, among others.

Aiming for flexible premises in Helsinki

Savon Voima switched to a hybrid working model in the wake of the pandemic and started to renovate its premises to make them more flexible. The aim was to boldly change the familiar models and keep up with the work of the future.

In August 2023, the company opened an office in Helsinki's city centre, opposite the railway station, as a pilot for its premises reform. After comparing several options, Savon Voima chose the Boffice Hotel, which convinced with its renovated premises, central location and versatile services.

"Boffice allowed us to start with a low threshold, as we were only able to rent the space to a few employees at the beginning. The premises are flexible according to staff needs and it is easy to add new workstations or rooms as required."
- Juha Räsänen, CEO of Savon Voima

A close-knit work community in an urban environment

Boffice provides companies with private office space that guarantees peace of mind. In the common areas, it is possible to network with other companies.

"There is a strong sense of community at Boffice, as you meet people from other companies in different sectors during coffee breaks. The collaboration with Boffice is immediate and warm, whether it's changing a light bulb or ordering catering services. People actively ask for our development ideas," says Jere Mättö, Development Manager at Savon Voima Network.

The monthly fee includes use of meeting rooms, kitchen, lounge area, coffee facilities, cleaning, showers and bike parking. The newly renovated facilities are equipped with room air-conditioning and heat control and wireless internet access.

Boffice allows you to customise your office space. Savon Voima's office is adorned with a branded effect wall with a large logo. Some of the furniture was rented from Boffice and some was purchased in-house.

Mättö, who previously worked from home, has moved to the office 100% with the Helsinki office. For her, working in the office with her lunch shifts adds a natural mobility to her working day. Interaction with colleagues is also more varied and she can move from her office to brainstorming, for example, at the whiteboard in the meeting room.

"The Boffice premises are the highest quality premises I have worked in so far. The work community feels closer than working from home and the vibrant Helsinki city centre brings a good energy and a sense of activity to the working day. You can't get me out of here," says Mättö.

Competitive advantage of multi-location

The successful piloting of more flexible premises has encouraged Savon Voima to move on to the next stage: the renovation of the Kuopio office.

"With our facility reform, we aim to keep up with the work. We take into account the fact that some employees only use the office on a temporary basis and therefore do not need a fixed workplace. Work that requires quiet working is done from home, and the office is about encounters, working together and innovation," says Hanne-Marie Forsström, HR Business Partner at Savon Voima.

Savon Voima's goal is to actively develop the working model in the future to enable a better employee experience. At the same time, new talent can be attracted from the Southern Finland region.

"Attracting the right talent will be an even bigger challenge in the future. People are used to being able to work wherever they want. So it is really critical that we can offer premises at the southern end of Finland," stresses Forsström.
